Well, this article is here to answer the question you've all been dying to know(yeah, the 3 of you that come to this site... Hey! I see you trying to walk out in the back! Get back here!), Why do bubbles come out of Toad in Mario Tennis? What's the deal with EarthBound 64????? Well, I'm going to tell you all about that now.

All right. So. EarthBound 64 is the little known, cult-classic sleeper hit of 1995. But you already knew that. It is quite an amazing game, and a sequel for it was announced for the N64(then called NU64) almost immediatly afer NU64 was announced. The games set release date was November of '97, but we all know how much that changed. It was going to be one of the first games for the 64DD, but was changed, thankfully, as the 64DD completely flopped. There was a lot of speculation about it, and it seemed to be going along fine. Although it didn't look like any of the original characters were back in this new game, loads of people were excited. Then, came the first delay.

It was delayed to Dec. '97, not so bad right? Just in time for Christmas you think. How wrong you were. Dec. '97 came around, and the only word on EB64 was that they were having development trouble. Well, great... Looks like no EB for Christmas. No word on EB64. Soon, it was taken off Nintendo Power's Release List. All hope seemed to be lost. But, just as this was happening, it resurfaced again at Spaceworld '99, with a playable demo. Great graphics, great music, great fun. Then, it was gone again. Little rumors seeped out here and there, while Starmen.Net started a petition to bring the game out. Right when SM.Net was about to reach its goal of 10,000 signatures, official word came out that EB64 had been cancelled. I got mad. Loads of people had been waiting for this game for a long time, and I know Sam was mad, because he pulled Miyamoto's(exec-producer of EB64, creator of Mario) face up in PD, and shot him... a lot. But alas, there is hope.

SM.Net's petition comes into play. Although the game was cancelled, they kept encouraging people to sign the petition, and ended up with 10,013 sigs. AWESOME. It is being sent to Nintendo right now. Hope for the best.

Well, now that I have discussed the games history, I would like to fill you in on what the game is like.

This game looked great. I loved the graphics, music, everything about it. It was supposedly going to be in chapters, where each chapter you would play as a different main character. That would have been cool. You would draw your magic from your surroundings, and if you used to much, you would pass out. If you were walking around, and you walked into an enemy before it saw you, you could get a surprise attack on it. If you hit your attacks on time with the music, you'll do more damage. It sounded like so much fun! Oh... I hope it comes out.

There is a possibility of EB64 being put out on GC, which would also rule. It's hard to believe that so much work(nearly 5 years) would be wasted because they had "technical difficulties". Itoi(main guy behind the EB series) said in an interview shortly after the cancellation that he had had to give up on a project earlier that he couldn't finish, but is planning on trying it again. Could this be Earthbound sixty-foh? I sure hope so! Hey! Ha ha! That rhymed! I should write songs! Oh.. wait, I already do...
